MANILA, Philippines - After a 2-month free trial, Liberty Telecom Holdings Inc. is set to commercially launch its WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) service in the Philippines.

Liberty is expecting its WiMAX and Internet broadband services to bring the company back to profitability, as these are seen to account for more than 90% of its sales and subscriber base.

Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. was the first to deploy WiMAX as a cost-efficient alternative to cable and digital subscriber line (DSL) in bringing wireless broadband access to the public.

France has echoed calls by the German government for web users to find an alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) to protect security. Certa, a government agency that oversees cyber threats, warned against using all versions of the web browser. Around 15,000 suspected pirates may soon get legal letters accusing them of illegally sharing movies and games.
ACS:Law plan to send notes to the accused in the New Year offering a chance to settle out of court for "several hundreds of pounds".

Finally, the Draft will now be taken off this logo.

As predicted last month, the IEEE has finally approved the 802.11n high-throughput wireless LAN standard.

Finalization of the new wireless networking standard--which is capable of delivering throughput speeds up to 300 megabits per second (and even higher)--took exactly seven years from the day it was conceived, or six years from the first draft version. The standard has been through a dozen or so draft versions.
